Thanks for all the helpful posts. Windows itself is what causes a large percentage of problems with hardware, sorry if that upsets all you Windows supporters but the fact remains that it's true. Try using different brands of quality blank media to solve the error. I started up Nero and it would create an iso image, but as soon as it would try to burn, I would get the dreaded power calibration error message.

With the same discs I used before! So many possibilities. It only will burn in 2.4x to begin with, and when I try to select 1x it goes right back to 2.4 - using ImgBurn or Nero.
